Introduction
Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western Kenya (NYARWEK) Coalition was formed in 2009 as an LGBTI membership organization the head quarter based in Nyanza to advocate and be a voice of the LGBTI in Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western Kenya with a view to build capacities of its members, integrate views and advocate for the rights of LGBTIQ.NYARWEK is registered as “Let Good Be Told In us” and registered as a civil society organization with the ministry of gender and social services. organizational back
NYARWEK mandate is to coordinate, capacity built, and its member organization activities and create linkages at different levels with likeminded organization in Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western Kenya.
Vision: A Society where LGBTIQ members have human dignity and rights respected.
Mission: To co-ordinate and link the LGBTIQ to Government Institution and Society at large through creating spaces for dialogue on human rights advocacy and policies.
Governance and Administrative Structures
The Board of Directors of NYARWEK consists of 11 Board Members with three; posts of Chairperson, Secretary, treasurer LGBTIQ Member representatives and Legal Advisor.
The Board is the policy making organ of the organization. They are an exclusive policy making organ of the organization who meets at least four times a year to review the institutional progress. The Chief Executive who also doubles as the Secretary to the Board has the overall responsibility of implementing the Board’s decisions as guided by the policies.
The organization structure consists of the Annual General Meeting members who are all the twenty three (23) members group affiliates working with the coalition. Annual General meeting is conducted once every year, however in case of an emergency that requires attention of all then a special general meeting is convened.AGM appoints 11 Board of Directors who are the policy makers and meets every quarter to receive both narrative and financial reports.
The BOD are representative of the LGBTIQ letter elected from affiliating groups and three other board members who are allies from Human right Body, Health Body and Advisor consultant who advise on some of the issue on running of the organization. The board is the overseer of the running of the organization.
The organization has the management staff headed by the Chief Executive Director who is the secretary to the Board of Directors.
The finance/Admin officer, Program Officer, Security Officer, Receptionist and Research & Documentation officer. The staffs have been supportive and have the spirit of team work.
Management Staff currently consists of (Finance and Administration Department and Programs Department) assisted by Human Rights Officer, Security Officer, Health Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Research and Documentation Officer who manage the day-to-day affairs of the organization on voluntary basis with subsistence allowances. The organization had its first annual general meeting and Financial Audit in December 2013 and also reviewed its strategic plan
The organization thematic areas include.
NYARWEK emphasizes on three major approaches on handling sexual diversity matters.
A. Known to Unknown approach.
Working on individual perception and understanding on the concept of sexual diversity.
B. Reproductive Health Approach.
Applied to reduce of HIV/STI prevalence.
C. Human rights approach.
Uses legal framework to handle sexual diversity right issue.
D. cluster approach engaging with the member organization

- Organizational Development: through this the organization will have governance training and workshop, capacity building of the membership organization.
- Monitoring and Evaluation will be done to ensure that the projects are on course and creating impact.
